Investing
In Transit
|
- The average family can save $2,300 annually living in an
area with many transportation options.
- For every dollar invested in transit. a community
realizes a return of $3 to $4 in new jobs, new development, and
increased property values.
- Springs motorists waste two workdays and 23
gallons of fuel
annually while stuck in traffic, costing the community $145 million
dollars in 2001.

- Public transportation allows many low income
citizens
access to jobs and to gain independence from public assistance.
- Transportation choices reduce car travel,
consumption of
gas, and dependence on foreign oil, resulting in less pollution.
- In 2004, local taxpayers agreed to create a
Regional Transportation Authority (RTA) and support it with a one penny
on a dollar tax. Ten percent of those funds are dedicated to
funding local public transit.
